Kanda was appointed by 334 Ramsbury Oxford Limited to carry out extensive community engagement on the proposals for the refurbishment and partial redevelopment of 334 Oxford Street, the site formerly occupied by Debenhams.
The plans will see the reprovision of three floors of retail, the reuse of the existing building’s structure, the introduction of new facades, and three additional storeys at upper levels with terraces benefiting from urban greening.
At upper levels, the plans will also see the introduction of high-quality Grade A flexible workspace space, and a flexible mix of uses on Vere Street, Marylebone Lane, and Henrietta Place.
Our engagement programme was undertaken virtually, due to the COVID-19 restrictions at the time the consultation went live. We held virtual briefings for community and political stakeholders as well as close neighbours, where we introduced them to the proposals and detailed plans through two rounds of consultation.
For wider community engagement we set up a dedicated consultation website and email address, and an online survey where residents and visitors to the area could have their say on the proposals and get in touch with the project team.
We responded regularly to email queries about the project from individuals and organisations to ensure everyone had their voice heard.
The community engagement was positive, and the scheme received no resident objections, an admirable feat for a project of this scale.
The application was approved by Westminster City Council on the 28th of September 2021.
