Housing delivery, viability and growth dominated the discussion as we welcomed Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and the Fire Service at the GLA for an evening with developers, investors and the wider industry.

While acknowledging the ongoing pressures facing the sector – from construction costs and regulation to wider economic uncertainty – Jules struck a broadly optimistic tone, highlighting the momentum behind planning reform, City Hall’s focus on delivery, and the importance of getting viable schemes moving.

He pointed to recent emergency measures, including reducing affordable housing requirements to 20% for qualifying schemes, as an example of City Hall taking a more pragmatic approach to unlocking delivery.

One theme came through clearly: if London wants more homes, the conversation increasingly needs to focus on viability as much as planning policy.
